PICKER LECTURES
The annual Plenary Lecture, which is supported by Picker Institute, was delivered at the 25th International ISQua Conference on Oct. 20, 2008, by James B. Conway, M.S., of Healthcare Improvement Inc. of Cambridge, Mass. Mr. Conway spoke on “Patients and Families: Essential Partners in Achieving Exceptional Quality and Patient Safety.” Mr. Conway was also the winner of this year’s annual Picker Awards (Individual).
Mr. Conway is senior vice president at IHI, where he served as a senior fellow from 2005 to 2006. His areas of expertise and interest include governance and executive leadership, patient safety, change management and patient- and family-centered care. He is a founding member of and distinguished advisor to the Lucien Leape Institute for the National Patient Safety Foundation.
He holds a master’s degree in science from Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass., and is a recipient of the college’s Community Service Award. An adjunct faculty member at the Harvard School of Public Health, he was the winner in 2001 of the first Individual Leadership Award in Patient Safety bestowed by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAH) and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
