PICKER EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS/ISQua 2008

Picker Institute sponsored two Patient-Centered Care Educational Workshops at the 25th International ISQua Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, Oct. 19-22. The Picker Education Workshops are an essential component of the Picker Institute mission to educate the healthcare industry and the general population to the benefits of patientcentered care.

Picker Institute sponsors educational workshops at national and international conferences convened by such healthcare organizations as ISQua, Planetree, Pioneer Network and more.

Workshop 1,  Hospitals and Patient-Centered Care: “Rights, Expectations, Culture: Quality Improvement and Patient-Centered Care Across the World” was presented by Charles Shaw, a consultant and former director of Picker Institute Europe. “Patient-Centeredness and Internal Quality Improvement in Hospitals in Europe” was presented by Oliver Groene, director of research and education at the Avedis Donabedian Research Institute of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. “Building Sustainable Patient-Centered Care Services” was presented by Dr. P.Y. Leung, director of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority.

Workshop 2, Methods and Tools for Providing Patient-Centered Care: “The Medical Home: A Vehicle for Providing Patient-Centered, Accessible, Coordinated, Effective and Efficient Care” was presented by Dr. Karen Davis, the president of the Commonwealth Fund. “Information Exchange and Patient-Centered Care” was presented by Ib Johansen, deputy manager of MedCom in Denmark. MedCom was the winner of this year’s special Picker Award for Excellence® in the Advancement of Patient-Centered Care. “Pursuing Perfection in Patient-Centered Care” was presented by James M. Anderson, president and CEO of the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
