For hospitals striving to make patient-centered care a hallmark of their service, nothing is as enlightening or as encouraging as hearing how it has already been done. The first Patient-Centered Care CEO Summit on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, following the annual Planetree conference and sponsored by Picker Institute, brought together nine hospital executives and healthcare researchers who have either met the challenge of establishing a truly patient-centered culture in their hospital or chronicled such a transformation. Each told the story of how their hospital achieved and is maintaining this goal and discussed some of the successful patient-centered strategies that have worked for them in an acute-care setting. The eight separate presentations can be viewed at www.pickerinstitute.org. Each education module is approximately 25 to 30 minutes long and preceded by an introduction of the speaker by Planetree president Susan Frampton.
