The institute sponsors research in patient-centered care in support of and in cooperation with educational and medical institutions. The institute’s goal is to foster a broader understanding of the theoretical and practical implications of patient-centered care by approaching healthcare with a focus on the concerns of patients and other healthcare consumers. Predicated on the belief that quality of life in nursing homes is as important as quality of clinical care, the Picker Long-Term Care Program, inaugurated in 2008, seeks answers to the challenge of improving the quality of life in LTC facilities.
